The technology has been made perfect through extensive research and development with refrigeration engineers and chemists. Using a scientific approach, they’ve perfected the recipe of your “perfect beer”, cold but still liquid and easy to drink. Consistency is the defining characteristic of this process.

What is Beer Below Zero?
Beer Below Zero is a revolutionary process of cooling the beers and serving it just before it freezes.
How cold is it?
It depends on the consistency of the beer and the thickness of the bottle. Some reach -13C. The average serving temperature of beers is 8C.
What’s so special about the freezer?
It’s a modified chest freezer. We tweaked it just to make sure the temperature is just right for beer. Regular freezers are not meant for beer, they were originally made for meat, ice cream, ice, etc.
What makes BBZ different?
The secret of Beer Below Zero is the system of shuffling the beers inside the freezer. We have our own version of sommelier – we call them the Beertenders. Their main duty is to make sure that beers are served below zero.
How important are the Beertenders?
The Beertenders play a major role in the success of the business. The system of loading, shuffling and dispatching beers is quite complicated. It’s not as simple as the FIFO process. If you leave the beers without shuffling them, the bottles will explode.
What will be the advantage of having BBZ in an outlet?
We never promise an increase in sales or volume. It’s not an exact science. What we guarantee is the very high potential for reorders. Serving beers below zero degrees will make it easier to drink therefore more chances for reorders.
What is the average increase in volumes?
Average is 30-40%. It also depends on the support we get from the outlet. If their waiters aggressively push it, they sell more. It makes it a win-win situation for both parties.
What are the major accomplishments of BBZ?
BBZ has given Guam the COLD treatment as we invade the international scene. A milestone every Filipino should be proud of, the COLDEST beers were given the warmest welcome in Guam.
BBZ celebrated its 2nd Year Anniversary with the event, “We’re 2 Years COLDER”, an event that celebrates the milestones and highlights of BBZ on its 2 years of existence. The event was in partnership with San Miguel Beer, Channel V, Fox International Channels, Starworld, U92, Friendster, The Daily Tribune, Autohub Group, Monster Energy Drink, Butty Productions, Brainchild Productions and Giant Little Partners.
And of course, we were tapped by San Miguel Corporation to mount 2 major events – 2008 Oktoberfest and the 2009 Summer Babad Double Chill project.

Consistency because we have a dedicated “Beertender” to man the freezer/s.
Double Chill = ordinary chest freezer. BBZ = modified chest freezer + Beertender + Brand

What is the story behind Beer Below Zero? How did this come about?
Beer Below Zero started from a very simple “science experiment” that turned into a very thorough R&D process. It started from the sheer love and passion for drinking cold beer. It took the group 8-9 months of experimentation before it was able to produce your “perfect beer” – beer in the coldest possible state just before it freezes.
What is/are the inspirations behind?
It started very simple – to come up with the coldest beer ever. Now the thrust of the group is to make the Philippines known worldwide as the country serving the coldest beers.
We are very nationalistic and patriotic. If Mexico has Corona and it’s known worldwide to be served with a wedge of lemon or lime, we want the Philippines to be known worldwide as the country serving the coldest beers.
Inspiration – Richard Branson of Virgin Atlantic. Very successful renegade businessman not scared to take risks.
What’s great about Beer Below Zero and how has it changed a consumer’s beer drinking experience?
Beer Below Zero has made beer drinking experience more pleasurable and fun. Beer taste is heightened and a lot smoother. It gives you an instant icy cool feeling, which is great considering we are from a tropical country. The average serving temperature of beer from ordinary chillers is around 8 degrees Celsius. Beers coming out of the Beer Below Zero freezers are served between -6 to -10 degrees Celsius. It’s actually colder than ice.
It’s very refreshing….some people call it a thirst quencher. Perfect for the Philippines’ traffic, politics, crisis, 30 degrees Celsius outside but -6 degrees in the bottle. How can you beat that?
What’s the secret for growing so fast?
Buzz marketing! Get people to talk about your product. They talk about this amazing product and the experience they had while drinking it. It’s viral, when you like something, you talk about it. Word of mouth is really a big factor in the growth of our business.
What’s the reception of consumers to Beer Below Zero?
They love it. Who doesn’t like their beers served in the coldest possible state just before it freezes. We actually have like a cult following for the product. The tagline says it all “Drinking Beer will never be the same again!” After drinking beers served below zero degrees, you won’t settle for the regular beer coming out of the ordinary chillers.
What’s the reception of bar owners?
Happy, excited and anxious! Average increase in beer consumption is 30-40%. It’s simple – Very cold beer makes it faster to be consumed thus, providing more chances for reorders. Imagine if a person who can only drink 1 bottle gets to drink 2 – that’s a 100% increase already.
Any future plans?
The long term plan is to change the way beer is served, consumed and enjoyed in the Philippines. Plan is to go nationwide and international. We already have an office in Singapore as a base for the Singapore and Malaysia markets
• Next would be Dumaguete, Bacolod, Iloilo and Palawan
• Next Baguio and the Calabarzon area
• As we kicked off as we opened in Guam– next stop would be Saipan, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.
